The Animal Dental Training Center was founded in Jan. 2000 by Dr. Ira Luskin, one of the founding pioneers in the field of Veterinary Dentistry. Today, over 22 years later, the ADTC remains the premier training facility for those seeking an unparalleled and comprehensive “hands-on” veterinary dental continuing education experience.
Dr. Alexander Reiter graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria in 1996. He completed a dentistry and oral surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) in Philadelphia in 2000 and became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) and European Veterinary Dental College (EVDC) in 2001. Dr. Reiter is Professor and Chief of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Penn Vet’s small animal hospital. He also is a Founding Fellow, AVDC Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). His clinical and research interests include dental, periodontal, oral and maxillofacial disease epidemiology, advanced periodontal surgery, bone grafting procedures, oral and maxillofacial surgery (trauma and oncology), palate surgery and palatal prosthetics, maxillofacial reconstruction, microsurgery (free microvascular tissue transfer), oral manifestation of systemic disease, and systemic manifestation of oral disease.
Dr. Sandra Manfra Marretta received her DVM degree from Cornell University in 1977. She completed an internship, surgical residency and clinical dentistry training at The Animal Medical Center. She obtained Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1985. She became a Charter Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College in 1988. She served as the Charter Secretary of the American Veterinary Dental College from 1988-1995 and the President of the American Veterinary Dental College from 2012-2014.
She is a Founding Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Fellow of the American Veterinary Dental College and the American College of Veterinary Surgery. She recently became a Professor Emerita in Small Animal Surgery and Dentistry at the University of Illinois after 23 years of service. She is the author of over 250 publications including journal articles, chapters, abstracts and proceedings. She is the winner of numerous awards including the 2002 AAHA Veterinarian of the Year, The Animal Medical Center Alumna of the Year Award, The University of Illinois’ Campus Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Teaching, and the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine’s All-Round Excellence Award.
Dr. Jason Hutt graduated as a member of the charter class of St. George’s University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. He received his bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in 1997. Dr. Hutt joined the Animal Dental Center as resident in dentistry and oral surgery in July of 2016 completing his training in 2019. He is a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College and an associate instructor at the Animal Dental Training Center in Towson Maryland. Prior to joining ADC Dr. Hutt spent thirteen years in small animal general practice as an associate veterinarian in Liverpool, NY a suburb of Syracuse. His professional interests include dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery and three dimensional imaging. In his spare time Dr. Hutt is an avid woodworker, downhill skier and certified divemaster. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Loren and son Jake. They share their home with an orthodontically challenged Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Hank.
Dr. Luskin is a well-known national and international speaker on small animal dentistry and oral-facial surgery and has published numerous articles in scientific journals as well as in breed club newsletters. He is often involved in research of new products to determine whether they may improve or enhance defenses against oral disease and assist the healing capacity of the mouth cavity. In January 2000, he established the Animal Dental Training Center (ADTC) of Baltimore as the first private post-graduate training center for veterinary dentistry and oral surgery in the United States. The ADTC is a state of the art teaching facility, dedicated to training veterinarians and technicians in dentistry and oral surgery. Since its inception, the center has hosted over 400 classes across a broad range of topics with veterinarians from all over the world who have come to learn dentistry. It has also hosted numerous dental wet labs for the national surgeon’s meetings and CVC veterinary conferences.
